A seriously cool piece of late-1960s Fender history, this Fender Kingman captures everything people love about the quirky and unmistakable Fender acoustics from the CBS era. Combining classic Fender styling with a big, lively dreadnought-style body, the Kingman has become a cult favourite amongst collectors, recording musicians, and players wanting something a little different from the usual acoustic offerings of the era.
One of the most recognisable features of the Kingman is its Stratocaster-inspired neck and headstock design — giving electric players an instantly familiar feel while delivering the warm, woody response of a vintage acoustic. These guitars have a character all of their own and have become increasingly sought after over recent years.
This particular example dates to approximately 1967–1968 and presents in fair vintage condition with honest wear and age-related character consistent with a near 60-year-old instrument.
There is evidence of some cracking to the top which appears stable, with no signs of structural movement or concern. The original pickguard has been replaced at some stage with a plain black guard, whereas these originally featured a gold pickguard mounted directly to the top.
The bridge shows some minor cracking and a small chip, though this does not affect the functionality, playability, or structural integrity of the guitar in any way. There is also a very slight lift visible at the rear of the bridge where the timber has naturally shrunk and settled over time, however the bridge remains stable and secure with no indication of further movement.
There is some finish lifting visible behind the neck pocket/joint area which can clearly be seen in the photos. A pickup has also been added at some stage, making the guitar suitable for live or amplified use.
The tuners appear to have been changed at one point in its life, however the original tuners have since been re-fitted. The previous tuner holes are mostly covered, with only slight evidence remaining visible around the edges as shown in the photos.
Overall, this Kingman remains structurally sound, plays well, and delivers the unique tone and feel these vintage Fender acoustics are known for. A vibey vintage player-grade example with plenty of charm and character
