This 1978 Gibson Les Paul Pro Deluxe is a seriously cool vintage Les Paul with loads of character. Like many late-’70s Les Pauls, she’s on the heavier side, but the payoff is exactly what you’d expect — huge tone, excellent sustain, and that unmistakable vintage Gibson feel.
It plays beautifully and sounds fantastic, delivering the thick, punchy Les Paul tone these guitars are known for.
At some point many years prior to the current owner, the guitar had a Kahler tremolo installed. Around five years ago we professionally repaired the top where this had been fitted. The repair was carried out using correct timber and proper methods, and the result is structurally solid and completely stable with no issues.
The top has been partially refinished in the area of the repair, but visually the work blends very well. Unless it was specifically pointed out to you, most people would likely never notice the repair.
At the time of the restoration a Bigsby vibrato was fitted, however this has been done without drilling additional holes into the top. It utilises the existing mounting points, meaning the guitar can easily be returned to a traditional stop tailpiece setup if desired.
Electronics have been updated with replacement pots and switch, which is quite common for instruments of this age, while the pickups remain original.
The guitar comes housed in a Gibson Protector case. One latch on the case is broken and the internal strap that normally stops the lid opening fully is missing, but the case still functions well for protection and transport.
Overall this is a fantastic vintage Les Paul with loads of vibe and personality. It’s the kind of guitar that when you pick it up and start playing, you immediately understand what makes these late-’70s Gibsons so cool.
Honestly, it’s the sort of guitar I’d happily add to my own Les Paul collection.
